Pisco Portón Wins Gold and Silver at Internationally Acclaimed Spirits Competition

Pisco Portón™, a flavorful and full-bodied new ultra-premium white spirit, has been awarded two Gold medals and a Silver medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2011, one of the largest and most acclaimed international wine and spirits competitions. The award follows tremendous praise from critics, mixologists, retailers and consumers since the brand debuted in March 2011.
“I can say with great pride and humility that Pisco Portón™ is not just one of the finest piscos ever made, it is one of the finest white spirits ever made”
As a first time participant in this most prestigious competition, Pisco Portón™ competed against hundreds of spirits. Nearly 300 sommeliers, wine buyers, importers, journalists and wine writers gathered for three days to judge this year’s entries. The two Gold and one Silver medals accorded to the Portón varietals are a testament to the brand’s outstanding quality, taste and dedication to tradition.
Master Distiller Johnny Schuler has spent most of the last two decades tasting and certifying every pisco produced in Peru and has used that knowledge and experience to create Pisco Portón. “I can say with great pride and humility that Pisco Portón™ is not just one of the finest piscos ever made, it is one of the finest white spirits ever made,” said Johnny Schuler. “These medals from Concours Mondial de Bruxelles are a humbling validation of the hard work put into each and every bottle, and I accept this honor with extreme gratitude.”
Pisco Portón™ is handcrafted in small batches at Hacienda La Caravedo in Ica, Peru, the oldest working distillery in the Americas (est. 1684), utilizing centuries-old distilling methods in combination with proprietary, state-of-the-art technologies. It is made from a blend of grapes (Quebranta, Albilla and Torontel) each chosen for their contribution to the delicate nose, complex body and smooth finish of the spirit.

In addition to the prominent judges at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, industry experts nationwide have taken notice of Pisco Portón™. Anthony Dias Blue of Tasting Panel magazine gave it a score of 92 out of 100, noting that Portón’s rich flavors are “smooth and creamy with vanilla and hints of black pepper.” Daniel Djang of Thirsty in LA remarked, “Pisco Portón is an impressive entry in the pisco category, a spirit that continues to win fans in a competitive market that is witnessing a renaissance of new releases.”
Pisco Portón™ is now available in many well-known bars, clubs, restaurants and liquor stores in major cities throughout California, New Jersey, New York and Texas with additional markets launching throughout 2011.
