Tech Crunch Disrupt New York 2011
Today at TechCrunch Disrupt, INQ Mobile and foursquare announced that the companies are collaborating on a foursquare home screen experience for INQ’s range of Android phones. Users will be able to swipe back and forth between Facebook and foursquare home screens, depending on what they are doing, what they are looking for, and who they want to connect with.
“This is an awesome demonstration of the power of foursquare. We're psyched that INQ has chosen foursquare to power the location layer on the INQ Cloud Touch.”
INQ is known for bringing social applications to life on mobile by deeply integrating app functionality throughout the phone and delivering live streams to the home screen, making it easy to stay in touch with what friends and family are up to.
The new integration uses the foursquare API to recommend nearby places to eat, drink and shop based on your location and past check-ins, along with check-ins from your friends and other members of the foursquare community.
Dennis Crowley, foursquare CEO, said: “This is an awesome demonstration of the power of foursquare. We're psyched that INQ has chosen foursquare to power the location layer on the INQ Cloud Touch.”
Frank Meehan, INQ’s CEO, said: “The foursquare experience on INQ is all about engaging a customer to really explore and discover interesting places. First, we’re looking to make it really easy for a consumer to discover and sign up to foursquare itself, via the start-up sequence. Then we’re taking foursquare’s great knowledge of the world around you and visualizing that on your home screen, enabling you to explore events, restaurants, clubs, etc. and even bookmark places in a to-do list.”
