3D to 2D glasses--for real this time

Earlier this month, we wrote about an April's Fool joke product by online retailer ThinkGeek called the De-3D cinema glasses. These are supposed to give a 2D view of a 3D movie for those who get headaches and nausea from watching 3D films. Well, the joke has now become a reality. A person by the name of Hank Green is selling a product called 2D-Glasses, which does exactly what the gag De-3D product was supposed to do.

A 3D image is created when the left and right eyes each sees a different view. This is achieved by having two different lenses in a pair of 3D glasses so they block out one image each. The 2D-Glasses, however, have identical lenses so one image is blocked out, leaving you with a 2D movie. It's not rocket science, and you could actually make one yourself with two pairs of passive 3D glasses.

If the DIY route is not your style, the 2D-Glasses are available for sale at US$8 a pair and can be shipped internationally.
